2024 Presidential Election: What You Need to Know

In what seems like a decades long campaign season, the results will be calculated and announced within the week. November 5th, Election Day, is going to be a day of celebration for the winning party and its followers, a day of mourning for others, and just another Tuesday for some. In an effort to shed some light on the ever turbulent waters that are American politics, we have take some of the more prominent talking points of the two main candidates: Republican, Donald Trump and Democrat, Kamala Harris, and present them here, without bias. At the end, you will have the opportunity to cast your vote. Who will Bayside High School nominate for President of the United States of America? You decide!


Donald Trump

Born: June 14th, 1946 (78 years old)

Place: Queens, New York

Education: University of Pennsylvania

Work History: Has worked in real estate and various entrepreneurial endeavors.

Platforms: Trump has run on the slogan "Make American Great Again". This is the same slogan he utilized in his 2016 and 2020 campaigns. The phrase is meant to evoke feelings of National pride and nostalgia for "simpler times". Trump believes in closing borders to immigrants, lowering taxes for all Americans, fighting inflation, leaving abortion rights to the states, and shifting the financial burden of Invitro Fertilization (IVF) to the Federal government, among other topics.


Kamala Harris

Born: October 20th, 1964 (60 years old)

Place: Oakland, California

Education: Howard University, UC Law

Work History: Harris has had a long, successful career in law, serving as a District Attorney, and Attorney General of California. She then transitioned into the Senate before becoming Vice President of the United States of America.

Platforms: Harris supports a woman's right to choose what medical treatment she receives, she believes in secure border control with exceptions for asylum seekers, and she has stated she wants to alleviate a significant burden on the American household by eliminating outstanding medical debt.
